Genius Hour

How are your ideas going so far for ‘Genius Hour’?  Have you thought of anything you’d like to master – some kind of new skill, or something that you’d like to figure out? Be careful not to think of it as something to ‘make’ – we’re not looking at a 10 week project to create something, but 10 weeks for you to become a ‘genius’ and master something new.

Post your ideas here!!

Books vs Movies

(Image: don't judge a book by its movie, a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike (2.0) image from rauchdickson's photostream)

Hi all, I hope you’re enjoying your Easter break and haven’t eaten too much chocolate!
Yesterday I went to see ‘The Hunger Games’ with my 13 year old son. We’ve both read the books and loved them. I thought the movie was ok, but I couldn’t help thinking that it missed out so much. One of my son’s favourite ever books is Eragon by Christopher Paolini (one of my favourite series too) but he absolutely hated the movie version.
What do you think? Have you ever been really disappointed by the movie version of a book you enjoyed? Or maybe it’s the opposite for you – did you ever think the movie was better than the book? Why do you think it happens that some books just aren’t as good when you see them on the screen?
Tell me what you think!

Happy Easter

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Easter (remember, not TOO much chocolate!).  Do remember to drop by the blog now and then and update us on what you’re up to.  I know some of you will be going away on holidays with your family, while others may be having a quiet relaxing break at home.  Whatever you’re doing, remember, enjoy the break and KEEP READING!! If you read a fantastic book on the holidays, tell us all about it on the Reader’s Retreat page on the blog!! :)   Mrs T :)

iPads

I went to a fantastic workshop about iPads today - I learnt some really great things that I can’t wait to show you tomorrow!  I am amazed all the time by the things that can be done on an iPad.  Wouldn’t it be great it every person in every school had one?  Imagine the possibilities!  Have a look at this amazing video of kids using iPads to make music.  Do you have an iPad at home?  Or an iPod touch?  What do you use yours for?  Mrs T :)

Awesome Avatars

What are avatars and why do we need them?

Avatars are images that you use to represent yourself. We use them because it’s not a good idea to use a real photo of yourself online. We’ve looked at a few avatar creation sites, now is your chance to make your own. Have a go using:

Manga style avatar

Wimpy Style

Superhero Style

Simpsons style

To use these avatars, you’ll need to save them as a picture to your computer, then upload them when you log in to Edublogs.  If you are having any trouble downloading them, try some screen capture software like Ace Winscreen (but ask Mum or Dad first before downloading anything from the internet!).

Get creative! Mrs T :)

Welcome to our blog

Let’s Get Blogging!

It’s the end of term 1, and time to start blogging!

Some of you might be wondering what a blog is … well, it’s explained quite well in this video.  Don’t worry if it all seems a bit much at the moment – we’ll be watching the video together in class and discussing what it all means!

We’ll be using this blog to connect, communicate, collaborate and create with people in our class, our school and our world.  How exciting!

Happy blogging!  Mrs T :)
